Shoppers and staff at Rossie's Foodworks in Griffith were stunned when a car smashed through the front windows on Monday afternoon.
A Griffith driver was behind the wheel of a silver Daewoo when it mounted the curb and hit the woman around 3pm.
The vehicle then continued on to smash through two large glass windows of the supermarket.
...it sounded like crashing bottles until they realised the fridges were moving forward, and the glass was breaking.
- Ross Catanzariti, Rossie's Foodworks
The woman was quickly attended to by shocked staff while paramedics were on their way.
Police are investigating the incident, however they said it appears the Daewoo failed to give way to a green Holden Astra at the roundabout on Banna Avenue and Benerembah Street.
Rossie's boss Ross Catanzariti praised efforts made by his team, who were understandably rattled from the incident.
"Staff are a bit shaken up, they tell me it sounded like crashing bottles until they realised the fridges were moving forward, and the glass was breaking," he explained.
"Only the woman on the sidewalk was hurt, and she was taken care of by staff until the ambulance came by and took control of the situation.
"We are lucky no one was seriously hurt."
In other news:
It's business as usual for them, with glass cleaned up and the wall made safe and secure while repairs are underway.
Police are obtaining versions of the event from witnesses and those involved, with any resulting charges to be laid once their investigation is complete.
The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance for monitoring but was not seriously injured.
