The event returns for the second year of a three-year contract at Jubilee Park from Friday, with over 10,000 players and spectators to converge on the city.

Road closures will be in place around Jubiliee Park for the three days and local accommodation is stretched to the limit, with an economic impact of up to $3 million predicted for the region.

"I think they were surprised last year by how big it was and there's a lot of places booked out already," Walsh said.

"Even Coolamon and Tarcutta, places like that, they're reaping the benefits of it as well.

"I'm assuming it (contract) will get reviewed after this carnival. I'd be surprised if it moves but I don't make those decisions, we'd love to keep having it here.

Around 220 teams will do battle and Walsh expects Wagga Vipers teams to hold their own on home turf in age groups from under-eight to under-18.

"The under-14 boys lost the last two state finals to Manly and should go well again, and the 12s girls are looking pretty strong," Walsh said.

"After last year's event we've seen a dramatic increase in quality in our local competition on Saturdays.

"It's grown again after last year's success with an extra 25 teams coming. A lot of Sydney clubs are bringing two teams this year because of the quality of the event, and the fields are better than any in Sydney."

Pool games will be held on Friday and Saturday, with the round of 16 through to finals scheduled for Friday.

"The top four get to go to Penrith for the state finals in two weeks, it's everyone's priority to qualify for that," Walsh said.

"This platform and being able to host it has given us the chance to expose more kids to that higher level."
