Coming up against holders Cricket Albury-Wodonga Provincial, Wagga is chasing a turnaround from the last time the two teams met in the competition.
Wagga have had the wood on their border rivals in Twenty20 cricket in the past few seasons, but suffered a three-wicket loss in the last challenge of last season.
Captain Joel Robinson wants a better performance in the final.
"Last year we let ourselves down after losing a couple of groups of wickets but we weren't too far off the mark," Robinson said.
"A couple of their blokes came out and got after us early, rode their luck and got away with it but if we can really work hard to get a good start to our batting innings I think we have enough with the ball to be able to contain and really threaten them."
Three changes have been made to the side who scored a comfortable win over CAW Hume last year.
Wagga City captain Josh Thompson is set for a return while South Wagga pair Nathan Cooke and Mitch Sykes come into the side as well.
Lachie Skelly and Tom Doig are both out due to injury concerns, while Ben Willis will act as 13th man.
Riverina representative Skelly will be a big loss due to a shoulder complaint however Sykes adds another spin option to the team.
Robinson is pleased with the team assembled.
"We're pretty happy," he said.
"There are a couple of good ins.
"Thommo has been in really good form with the bat this season and Sykesy has started to take some wickets.
"He's been bowling well all year while Cookey gives you a bit of everything - he's god in the field, gives you a good ball and also is a good finisher with the bat."
A new format to the prestigious competition has had a mixed reaction so far.
A pool system was introduced but only five associations, three under the CAW banner entered, but the holders haven't had a match so far after Griffith forfeited.
However Robinson doesn't believe the change lessens the importance of the competition.
"It is no different for us," he said.
"A game against Albury is a game for the crown I guess.
"We've probably had the wood over them in the T20 format in the last three or four years and previously to there was a couple of really close games in the Country Cup so it's definitely a good rivalry."
However the weather could be against Wagga with rain forecast for Sunday.
