With a forecast top of 44 degrees on Saturday, the Wagga Pro Rodeo is one of a number of events to be called off.
Equex was ready to be full of bucking action for the annual event, however organisers had made the call on Friday not to go ahead.
John Gill said the welfare of stock was the most important consideration.
"We thought there could have been a change, but the welfare of the animal comes first," Gill said. "Forty four degrees isn't fair to anyone.
"Even the spectators couldn't enjoy it in that."
The timing of the call ensured most who were planning to travel for the event hadn't started their journey yet.
The rodeo is now slated to go ahead in two weeks' time.
Gill believes the February 15 date will be even better.
"I think we will get much better weather in two weeks," he said.
"The only APRA rodeo on is in Tasmania and we don't get many of the Tasmanian riders anyway so it's a pretty good weekend to be running it."
Tumbarumba already rescheduled their rodeo from New Year's Day to February 21 due to the bushfire crisis.
It comes after Wagga Cricket made the call on Wednesday to abandon all junior and seniors matches.
Wagga Softball officials also made the decision on Friday to postpone the return of their season following the Christmas break.
Clashes between Turvey Park Blue and South Wagga Warriors and Saints and Turvey Park Red were set to played on Saturday.
There remains a possibility both games will be rescheduled.
Friday night's harness racing meeting at the Albury Paceway was also abandoned due to the extreme heat.
With the mercury tipped to rise to 42 degress on the Border, Harness Racing NSW stewards made the decision to abandon the meeting at 9am on Friday.
Allan Hull was set to call his final TAB meeting there.
Racing NSW stewards are also monitoring conditions for the Tumbarumba Cup program on Saturday.
Cooler conditions are expected on Sunday.
