The 37-year-old, who spent nine seasons at Liverpool, adds experience to a side who are without first-choice keeper Tom Heaton for the rest of the season through injury.
Villa are currently in the relegation zone in 18th place and will hope a player of Reina's pedigree can get them moving up the table.
"We've managed to secure a player in Pepe who has a wealth of Premier League experience," Villa head coach Dean Smith said.
"Pepe fits our criteria not just because of his experience but also because of his leadership qualities."
