Rose Barr from the Bureau of Meteorology said areas around Tumbarumba, Batlow, Tumut and Talbingo would face temperatures in the low to mid-forties and "significant" northeasterly and northwesterly winds.
"Our other major concern is that we are likely to see a wind change moving through, particularly in the northern parts of the region, in the late [Saturday] evening or overnight period.
"There are a number of critical wind differences during Saturday and that can make fire behavior really challenging to forecast and challenging to fight."
The winds could ease hazardous air quality over Wagga but could also bring up smoke from fires in Victoria.
As of Friday evening, Tumbarumba's Saturday forecast was for a maximum of 41 degrees with light winds becoming northwest to northeasterly 25 to 35 km/h early in the morning then becoming northwesterly 25 to 40 km/h in the morning.
Tumut's Saturday forecast was similar except for a top temperature of 45 degrees.
Wagga's Saturday forecast was a maximum of 45 degrees with winds northeast to southeasterly 15 to 20 km/h tending north to northeasterly in the morning then tending northwest to southwesterly 25 to 35 km/h in the middle of the day.
