The three-kilogram apprentice hugged the rails as the top weight surged to the line late to take out Murrumbidgee Turf Club's summer feature.
Settling near the rear of the field from the wide alley, Spunlago just found clear running in the dying stages after being given a saloon passage by the Victorian apprentice.
Albury trainer Ron Stubbs was thrilled with Lloyd's ride.
"He's a young and upcoming jockey but he rode it like a veteran," Stubbs said.
"It was a superb ride.
"With a three-claiming apprentice on a horse carrying 60.5 (kilograms) and giving a lot of weight to a lot of horses in the race and still be able to pinch the win."
It was Lloyd's biggest win to date, and his first in NSW.
Apprenticed to David Hayes at Euroa, Lloyd was thrilled to secure the ride and even more so to come away with victory.
"It is a great thrill and my first winner in NSW too," Lloyd said.
"I was very happy to get the ride, he had been racing in better races than this so it was great."
Lloyd is bred for success in the saddle with the teenager the son of South African jockey Jeff Lloyd, who has over 100 group one victories.
With Spunlago handed 63.5 kilograms by the handicapper, Stubbs admitted the eight-year-old wouldn't even have been in the race without the claim.
"He was in at Caulfield on Boxing Day and if we couldn't claim three then he was staying home," he said.
Coming off a narrow defeat in the Wodonga Cup, Stubbs was pleased to see the veteran bounce back to winning ways.
Dropping back in class, it was his first win since success at Flemington in May and 12th overall.
Stubbs was pleased to see a long range plan come off.
"We thought at the start of this prep we thought we would target this race again and fortunately it has come off," he said.
"It was a good consolation (for the Wodonga Cup)."
Lady Mironton looked the winner for Wagga trainer Wayne Carroll but couldn't hold off the late charge to go down by a nose.
