The Sharks have handed the hooker a one-year-old contract after he spent last season in the United Kingdom with Featherstone Rovers.

King told Sharks Media he was excited to get another opportunity with a NRL club.

"I wasn't sure I'd get another opportunity in the NRL, so I'm grateful to be back," King said.

"It's good to get here and I'm excited about the year ahead."

King made his debut for St George Illawarra in 2010 and has also had stints at North Queensland and Parramatta.

He was left clubless after the Eels didn't offer him a new deal after the 2018 season, where he played 11 games.

Injuries have plagued the 28-year-old and serious knee, shoulder and pectoral muscle problems saw him spend 733 days in the NRL wilderness before making his debut for the Eels in 2017.

King has played 46 NRL games to date.

He played in 28 games last season with Featherstone as they made it through to the Million Pound Game.

However they failed to win through to the English Super League after a 24-6 loss to Toronto Wolfpack in the Million Pound Game.

King scored 18 tries for the Rovers last season, one he described as one of the best in his career.

"It was different to anything I have ever done with footy," he said.

"We played a lot of games over there amd it was a long year biut I wouldn't trade it for the world.

"I had a great year. Featherstone is a great club."

King is looking to bring some experience to the young Sharks outfit.

He is expected to compete with young gun Blayke Brailey for game time at hooker next year.

He had his first training run with the club on Monday and likes what he sees ahead of 2020.

"I think it's really exciting the squad we've got here and I'm looking forward to a big pre-season and hopefully an exciting 2020," King said.

Cronulla were knocked out by Manly in the first week of the finals and start 2020 with a clash against South Sydney on March 14.
