Riverina won two of their three games to start the tournament on Monday but didn't enjoy the same amount of success on day two.
Instead two tight losses have put them on the cusp of missing out on a semi-finals spot.
Riverina started the day with a 9-6 loss to North West before bouncing back to winning ways with a 8-2 victory over North Coast.
However they couldn't finish off the day with a win despite a strong performance against Sydney North.
Sydney North have only lost once, to undefeated Sydney East who smashed Riverina 17-1 on Monday, and Riverina couldn't quite match it with them late.
However coach Samantha O'Connell was impressed with the fight the girls showed against the strong opposition in the 5-3 loss.
"I suspect Sydney North will be pushing for the grand final so it was a really good game," O'Connell said.
"They only just got that last goal in the last 20 seconds so it was really quite good."
However she was disappointed with how they started off the morning up against North West.
Their rivals shot out to a 6-1 lead before Riverina rallied late.
"Essentially for the first three quarters we were chasing them," O'Connell said.
"We took a little bit to switch on and they were up by quite a lot but in the last half we caught up quite a bit and it was 8-6 with 20 seconds to go before they got that last one.
"We really came back in the last quarter, which was really good."
The comeback helped build momentum for the second game and O'Connell was pleased with how much better the team executed.
O'Connell was also impressed with the overall improvement of the side at the back end of the second day's play.
Riverina tackles undefeated Hunter on Wednesday before a twilight clash with Sydney West.
The top four teams head into the semi-finals on Thursday.
