A Murrumbidgee Local Health District spokesperson told The Daily Advertiser on Thursday that the 53-year-old man died at Wagga Base Hospital on Wednesday after been taken from the scene by ambulance.
There were no injuries from the house fire itself, which was reported to police at 4.14pm, however a man at a house across the road collapsed while emergency services were responding to the incident.
An ambulance was called to the scene on Anne Street about 5.30pm and took the man to Wagga Base Hospital.
Paramedics performed CPR on the man and took him to hospital in a critical condition.
On Thursday, Riverina Police District Inspector Maggie Deal said the resident of the house that caught fire was not at the property at the time.
"She was informed about it later, but unfortunately the house was completely destroyed," she said.
"We did hold it as a crime scene, which is standard in these circumstances, until this morning when it was safe for forensic services to have a look.
"At this point investigations are still continuing. We haven't determined a cause."
