Known collectively as 'The Marigolds', the group of seniors formed at the local pool and have since grown to meet once a month for coffee, barbecues and a chat.

"I started going to the pool a couple of years ago now with my husband who needed to every morning at 6am, just to do some laps and light exercise," Maureen Fitzgerald said, who is seen as one of the creators of the group.

"Gradually we saw more and more of us going and we'd each invite friends so we grew quite the group and decided to make it more than just going to the pool of a morning."

Once a month, usually on a Thursday, the Marigolds meet at a different cafe in Junee and have done for the past two or three years. This month they met at the Jail Break Inn.

One of the members Jan Burns said for her, the Marigolds were a way to keep in touch with the community.

"I haven't been able to go to the pool since April for health reasons and I really miss it, so it is great to have this aspect of it too where we can catch up for coffees and have a chat," she said.

"Everyone is so kind and thoughtful and I love being a part of that."

Named after the film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and a number of other high profile actors, the group even have a 'Marigold of the month' award recognising the positivity of one member in particular.

Joyce Cooper has been a part of the Marigolds for a couple of years, and said it had multiple benefits.

"I love it, there's so much encouragement from everyone," she said.

"I try to get to the pool about three times a week too so it's good for my muscles and health, and we have fun in the process."

Mrs Fitzgerald added that there was a good balance of exercise and fun.

"I think we talk more than we probably swim, it is definitely a bit of a support network for everyone and a way to check up on our friends," she said.

"We've made friends along the way really, we all have our different interests and different charities or things we help out with, but come together for this is one thing we have in common."

The Marigolds have also become big supporters of Junee businesses.

"As locals we need to support the local businesses and that's why we take it in turns going around to a different cafe or place each time," Ms Burns said.

"There are quite a few of us so we bring a fair bit of business to each place we go to."

Marigold member Chris Turk said they have no plans of slowing down.

"It just keeps growing - We'll take over the world one day," he said.
