Tehran-born Melbourne artist Hoda Afshar's stunning images look like they could be spruiking a new tourist destination. There are lush tropical jungles, white sands and sapphire waters.
However, his film Remain was not filmed on a resort, but on Manus Island.
Remain asks audiences to rethink how we look at marginalised people while documenting individual stories of refugee journeys, including that of acclaimed writer, journalist and academic Behrouz Boochani.
Remain was selected for the prestigious Primavera exhibition at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in 2018, highlighting work of artists under 35.
Remain opens on Saturday November 9.
