Wagga City had more than 10 overs in hand as they continued their strong start to the season.
Thompson (49 not out) and Maxwell (48) put on a quickfire 88-run partnership for the first wicket.
Thompson admitted the pair rode their luck early in the eight-wicket victory.
"It was a good day for us," Thompson said.
"Everything just fell into place which was kinda lucky."
Thompson thought 120 would be the par score on the ground as was pleased the bowling attack held them to below it before a powerful start to their own innings.
"I could have gone either way and there were a lot of balls that could have went to hand but they just didn't," he said.
"We were lucky in that aspect but it was good to utilise the powerplay and that's what you've got to do in T20s."
