Reigning premiers, South Wagga Warriors, bounced back from their one-run loss in the opening round to comfortably beat Turvey Park Red, 12-5.
However, the Greens had to come from behind on their way to the mercy rule result, when the Reds took a one-run lead into the top of the second.
Jess Swaysland and Kristy Tenison crossed the plate for the Warriors in the top of the dig, but Amanda Lenon, Karina Dennis and Belinda Dennis all scored for Turvey to give them the narrowest of leads.
The next two innings saw the Warriors add eight runs to their tally, with the highlight being a four-bagger to Makaylee Little.
Over the same period, Turvey were kept scoreless.
Turvey managed to shut out the Warriors in the top of the fourth, with youngster, Alex Maiden, introduced to the pitcher's plate.
In response, Turvey's Kate Looney was batted in by Amanda Lenon, making the score 10-4 in favour of the Warriors.
The Warriors scored two more runs with hits to Montana Kearnes and Sam O'Neil, enabling Swaysland and Kearnes to reach home.
In the bottom of the fifth, Turvey added a single to their score when an error allowed Anneka Piercy on base and she was batted in by Jade Olsen.
However it wasn't enough to prevent the mercy rule from being applied and the Warriors finished 12-5 winners.
In the other match, the defences of Saints and Turvey Park Blue were in charge as it was not until the top of the sixth that the first run was scored.
The respective batteries of Saints' Tessa McGlynn to Desi Calder and Turvey's Paris Hall to Amanda Gooden had the elements in their favour and good support from their fellow fielders as the two teams were shut out in the first five innings.
The Saints opened the scoring in the top of the sixth when a wild Turvey throw allowed McGlynn to reach third and she went the whole journey when Turvey erred again.
Turvey tied the game up when Leila Wadley eventually scored on a Saints mistake, after executing a fine left-hand drag bunt.
'Three up- three down' was the order of the Saints final innings, leaving Turvey one to score for a win.
In a tense finish, after the lead batter was dismissed, Phoebe Wadley became the match winner crossing the plate from the winning run.
She began her route homeward with an 'accidental' bunt which was erred in the field and allowed her to reach second.
Ruby Thornely hit firmly to third who threw wildly giving Wadley the opportunity to score.
The win was a real confidence booster for the young Turvey team, who caught the Saints without two of their best players in Rochelle Harley and Kadison Hofert.
Nevertheless as has often been said 'a win's a win'.
