The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a maximum of 35 degrees for Wagga, after several days of temperatures in the 30s.
Wagga's record for an October maximum temperature - 36.3 degrees - was set on October 13, 2006.
By 10.17am on Thursday, the temperature had reached 26.4 degrees.
While Thursday's expected top of 35 degrees may not break that record, it's going to be much higher than the long-term average maximum of 21.6. So far this month, the average maximum has been 24.7 degrees.
With the hot conditions comes a reminder about bushfire risks.
There has been just 7.2 millimetres of rain so far this month, down on the long-term average of 56.8mm.
After Thursday's hot conditions, the bureau is predicting a top of 33 degrees, with a 70 per cent chance of one or two millimetres of rain.
However, there will be a change in the weather, with much cooler conditions predicted for both Saturday and Sunday, when the mercury is not expected to pass 22 degrees.
