The funding is provided under the Floodplain Grants Scheme as part of the Natural Disaster Resilience Program.
The Lockhart Shire Council will receive more than $800,000 for drainage works in The Rock township, which experienced devastating inundation and severe damage to homes and facilities during floods in 2012.
"In a place like Australia, where we can suffer bush fire one day and floods the next, building community resilience for natural disasters is vital," Mr Elliott said.
