All lanes of the Hume Highway are now open at Marulan after an earlier car crash near Highland Way, but motorists are still being told to expect significant delays in both directions.
Southbound traffic on the Hume Highway is heavy for around 20 kilometres approaching the crash site. Northbound traffic is heavy for around 25 kilometres.
Transport for NSW has advised motorists to consider delaying their journeys, or allow plenty of extra travel time.
Meanwhile, motorists in other parts of the state should also allow extra travel time due to heavy holiday traffic.
- Southbound traffic on the M1 Pacific Motorway is heavy from Morisset to Warnervale on the Central Coast, adding around 60 minutes extra travel time.
- Northbound traffic is heavy on the Pacific Highway at Woodburn on the north coast, adding around 15 minutes extra travel time.
- Northbound traffic is heavy on the Princes Highway through Nowra, adding around 10 minutes extra travel time.
- Northbound traffic is heavy on the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay, adding around 20 minutes extra travel time.
- Eastbound traffic is heavy on the Great Western Highway approaching Blackheath in the Blue Mountains.
Earlier, 3pm
Two cars have collided on the Hume Highway north east of Goulburn near Marulan, causing lengthy holiday traffic delays for drivers.
The collision happened at 12.15pm on Monday in southbound lanes of the Hume Highway near Highland Way.
Multiple emergency crews have been called to the scene, including a rescue helicopter.
A NSW police spokeswoman said the two cars collided before crashing into trees.
Transport for NSW has warned drivers to expect "heavy traffic" and "significant delays" with queues of vehicles stretching up to 23 kilometres in both directions.
A female driver was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by helicopter to Canberra Hospital in a serious condition.
A male driver from the other car was also treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
There were no other passengers in the cars at the time of the collision.
Rural Fire Service crews and ambulance crews have attended the scene of the collision.
One northbound lane and one southbound lane of the highway has been closed due to the collision.
NSW traffic authorities said significant delays were expected on the Hume Highway as holidaymakers drive home after the long weekend.
Drivers have been told to exercise caution and allow for extra travel times.
The heavy vehicle station at Marulan has been closed while the rescue helicopter is at the scene.
Transport for NSW has advised holiday drivers that other highways are also experiencing delays.

- Northbound traffic is heavy on the Princes Highway through Nowra, adding around 20 minutes travel time.
- Northbound traffic is heavy on the Princes Highway approaching Batemans Bay, adding around 40 minutes travel time.
- Eastbound traffic is also heavy on the Great Western Highway from Mount Victoria to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains.
