Police officers from the Riverina Police District and Riverina Highway Patrol have been out in force and urging motorists to slow down and take care over the long weekend.
The operation, which commenced on Friday, will cease at mid-night.
Superintendent Bob Noble said in a tweet that more than 3500 random breath tests were conducted and over 180 fines were issued during the first three days of the operation, not including today.
The Daily Advertiser contacted Wagga Police for further detail, but was told a summary would be provided on Tuesday.
According to NSW Police, a 31-year-old man was detected driving almost 50 kilometres above the speed limit on the Hume Highway.
The man was detected at a speed of 159 kilometres per hour in a 110 kilometre zone at Tumblong.
He was issued an over 45km/h traffic infringement notice and his driver's licence was suspended for six months.
"For us in the present time, the biggest risk is distraction; telephones, using social media while driving and other devices in the car - they're a pretty big risk for us," Superintendent Noble said in a press conference last week.
"We'll continue to be very stringent of our enforcement of driver distraction over the long weekend."
