A five-kilometre run has been added to the 10km run and 10km ride for 2019.
President Phil Roy believes it is helping add to an increase of participants for the annual event this year.
"Regos are coming in and it is looking up on last year which is great," Roy said.
"The weather is looking good too."
Roy estimated around 1500 people could take part this year with the bulk of the entries still to come in, as has been the custom previously.
The 10km race has double the entries of the 5km at this stage but Roy believes it is a good option for those who may be daunted by the longer distance.
"We want to encourage folks who thought 10km was a bit too far from them," he said.
"We know five km at things like parkrun is a popular distance and is possibly more achievable for those who like to walk."
Eight-time winner Carmel Kahlefeldt has been given the honour of being the official starter this year.
Her son, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Brad Kahlefeldt, won last year's event, while his brother Jared Kahlefeldt is among the favoured runners this year.
The bike race gets under way at 9.30am before the 10km run at 10am and the 5km run at 10.30pm.
The event is free with entries taken at www.lakerunride.com.
