After the club won successive premierships under Nick Skinner in 2016 and 2017, departing Bulls captain-coach Kyle McCarthy fell just short of the ultimate success twice in his two-year tenure at the helm.

Tumut's strength throughout the season has been their forward pack and McCarthy thought their strength through the middle proved just too much in their 28-4 victory.

"They just got too much of a roll on," McCarthy said.

"Everything we worked on with the markers and A defenders just fell apart and we weren't able to keep up the pace.

"They blew us away."

Southcity had beaten Tumut in two of their three clashes this season including a 22-18 win in the first week of finals.

However they couldn't reproduce the same intensity in the game that matters most.

McCarthy thought the team showed good fight but couldn't keep the pace.

It ends another season which promised so much but also had plenty of highs and lows along the way.

"We were good at times, bad at times with a bit of inconsistency," McCarthy said.

"Injuries didn't help but it is no excuse.

"We put a good enough team on the park to win it but we just weren't good enough."

Nathan Rose, who scored the Bulls lone try, will take over the coaching role next season with McCarthy to remain in a playing capacity.
