Temora pair Bruce and Trevor Firman used some local knowledge to their advantage to take out the Zone 8 Champion of Champions pairs title over the weekend.
Braving freezing conditions at Temora Bowling and Recreation Club, the Firmans needed an extra end to claim a thrilling final.
The Firmans, representing Southern Slopes took on Junee Ian Copper and Billy Seton, substituting for Warren Charlton, in the first round.
They took a big 30-12 win over the Wagga District team to set up a semi-final clash with Oaklands pair Brian Gee and Ron Bonat, representing Albury.
Coming off the first round bye, Gee and Bonat fell 19-15.
On the other side of the draw Batlow's Jordan Dennis and Zac Cottam, representing Southern Highlands, scored a 21-14 over Griffith Exies pair Phillip Boneham and Andrew Hughes, representing Riverina in the first round.
However they couldn't sustain their form to set up a clash with the Firmans in the final, falling 21-18 in a tight contest to Young pair Damien and David Quigley, representing South West.
It was a final for the ages with both teams hitting the lead during the game.
The Young pair took a 20-17 lead coming into the last end but Temora picked up three shots to make it all square at the end of 21 ends, forcing an extra end.
Using that form, the Firmans picked up the shot required to come away with the zone title.
