NRMA Wagga store manager Cory Selby said working in a regional area means seeing some odd things.
"I had a chap bring a car in, and he said 'I ran over a snake the other day and I can't find it'," he said.
"We had a look at it and we found it wrapped around the exhaust, dead thank goodness.
"Another guy said 'we have a smell coming from the air conditioner'."
Mr Selby opened up the box, pulled the fan out and there was a dead mouse.
"We see odd things all the time," he said.
In 2018, one in three cars serviced by the NRMA in Wagga last year had a potentially dangerous tyre or brake issues according to a company survey.
According to the most recent crash data from the Centre for Road Safety, tyre failure was the most common cause of a mechanical malfunction in cars where vehicle failure was the cause of the crash.
"Tyre blow-outs caused by under or over-inflated tyres can suddenly burst, reducing your ability to control your vehicle," Mr Selby said.
"While worn tyres are more likely to slip, take longer to brake or have a weak grip on the road, contributing to a possible accident.
"Replacing tyres before they completely lose their tread and maintaining optimal tyre pressure are musts for preventing these mechanical failures on the road."
Mr Selby said bad brakes were the second leading cause of mechanical malfunction crashes and the only way to prevent bad brakes was a regular inspection.
"Common brake-related issues include faulty or worn brake lines, antilock brake system malfunction or worn brake pads and discs," he said.
" All of these issues can compromise brake performance, resulting in longer stop distances and increased accident risks.
"If your vehicle's due for an inspection, it's important to get that inspection done so you know if there are any issues that need fixing before your safety is put at risk."
