Inspector John Aichinger said police engaged in a pursuit of a white Holden VZ Commodore sedan beginning on Lake Albert Road at Kooringal at 4.50am.
Police followed the car through Grove Street and then Stanley Street in Mount Austin as it reached speeds of more than 100 kilometres per hour through 50km/h zones.
"The vehicle was lost at that point and was later found abandoned in the car park of the Bruce Street apartments," Inspector Aichinger said.
"The vehicle has been towed for forensic examination and it appears to have been involved in a collision.
"It's quite possible that the driver has suffered an injury. There was no blood in the car but it did appear that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt."
Inspector Aichinger said it was not known at this stage whether the vehicle was stolen but it was registered to an address in Griffith.
Anyone with information regarding the incident has been urged to contact Wagga police station on 6922 2599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police are also investigating an incident where a car was broken into and items stolen on Beckwith Street near Sportsmen's Club Hotel between 8.30pm on Thursday and 1am on Friday.
"A rock was used to break the front passenger window and the rock was found inside the car," Inspector Aichinger said.
"A wallet and backpack were taken.
"This appears to be a crime of opportunity and unfortunately if you leave valuables in your car there are some people who will take that opportunity."
