Think again.
Although they were out of finals contention heading into the last round, the Wolves were hellbent on ending the hopes of arch rivals Wagga United, which they achieved with a late equaliser on Sunday.
On a tense final day Young's 1-0 win over South Wagga on Saturday night and Leeton's 7-1 rout of Lake Albert, with Adam Raso slotting four goals in front of an appreciative home crowd, meant Wagga United needed to win to slip into the top five.
They looked on track when Nazar Yousif headed home a goal in the 62nd minute, but a superb strike from Tolland's Nick Young which found the top right corner in the 88th minute sank their hopes.
Wagga United was unlucky not to be awarded a late penalty when Lincoln Weir was brought down in the box, but their season is over with Young and Leeton to meet in the elimination final next week for the second straight year.
Had Wagga United won, Young would have been the team to miss out after entering the round a point behind the Crows and Leeton.
Nick Young said the Wolves were motivated to finish a disappointing season on a high by pulling off an upset.
"We didn't make finals this year, but this was our final to knock them out," Young said.
"A few of our boys used to play for them, it's always a grudge match and a bit feisty.
"We've been slow starters all season and even if a team scores a goal against us, we can always push to get one back."
Young rated it one of the best goals he's scored, which he hit sweetly from just outside the box.
"The last few minutes we were pushing to get that goal, (there was) a few missed headers and it came through to me and I put the volley in the top corner. You couldn't script it better than that," he said.
"I've been alternating between midfield and the front this year and I've have an OK season in terms of goals, to finish off with that one just tops it off.
"We knew coming into this match (if we achieved) a win or a draw and other results go our way we'd knock United out, and they've always been a rival for us."
In other matches Hanwood secured the minor premiership and the week off in the first week of finals with a 7-3 rout of Tumut at Rawlings Park on Sunday.
In Sunday's other clash Henwood Park finished the regular season in second after belting Cootamundra 4-0.
The Hawks will play Lake Albert in next week's qualifying final.
