The warning extends across a wide part of NSW, including the Riverina and South West Slopes.
According to the bureau, vigorous northwest to southwesterly winds are expected across south-eastern NSW on Wednesday as an initial cold front moves through, followed by a second front on Thursday. Winds should ease later Thursday evening.
By noon in Wagga, the temperature had reached 12.9 degrees. Wind gusts reached a peak of 23 knots - or 43 kilometres an hour- just after 11am.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
- Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
