United entered the game level with Henwood Park in third, but the Hawks' 5-0 rout of Tumut means they now have some work to do if they are to grab the double chance in finals.
"We missed four sitters, two were from inside the six-yard box," Wagga United coach Travis Weir said.
"That's the best I've seen us play without a result, our shape and structure was fairly disciplined and our creativity was pretty good.
"We just lacked the goals, but I thought our back four did really well.
"We've been building. we're seven games undefeated now and it's the right time to be doing it."
Young entered the match in sixth spot and with three games now face a huge match against fifth-placed Leeton United at MIA Sports Field next week.
