However, that's no longer the case. The crane is going to be dubbed Wama-rra.
The crane's new moniker was dreamed by 10-year-old Hamish Wilkinson, who won a Murrumbidgee Local Health District competition for naming rights.
Hamish, a Wagga Public School pupil, chose the name because it's the Wiradjuri word for "build".
"I wanted to call it 'Crane', but then Dad suggested I look for a Wiradjuri name," he said.
Hamish has won a new iPad, as well as a tour of the hospital construction site.
A banner with the winning name will be displayed from the 48.9-metre tower crane, which will be on the health precinct site until early 2020 as part of the construction of the third stage of the Wagga Base Hospital redevelopment.
Hamish's entry was chosen by the judges from a field of more than 200.
