But after initially worrying about whether she'd live up to the two-time Farrer League premiers' expectations this year after shifting from Collingullie, she needn't have feared.

The O'Leary girls, coach Sarah and captain Emily, run a tight ship that demands dedication and commitment, and Thompson has used those qualities to transform into a key piece of their midcourt machine.

"I wasn't originally playing A-grade, I was going over to play reserves, but we had a couple of trial games and stuck in there," she said.

"When they asked me (to join the team) I was excited, but I was also worried they're big shoes to fill.

"When they've already won (the last two) premierships, it's hard to slot myself in there and feel like I'm not getting in the way."

TRYC are unbeaten after 14 games, with an average winning margin of 36 goals, before Saturday's away clash with second-placed Charles Sturt University.

CSU has only lost once this year, to the Magpies in round seven.

Wing attack Thompson said they hadn't struggled for motivation despite handing out some hidings, and sent a warning by declaring they still have another couple of gears in reserve.

"Because Sarah and Emily put such a drive behind us we want to give it 100 per cent," Thompson said.

"I was a bit worried because they are really good netballers and I don't know if I'd live up to their expectations, but if you do something wrong they don't get cranky at you, they motivate you to work on it next time.

"They're probably the best coaches I've ever had, they're so particular but in a good way.

"They (CSU) are definitely going to be a hard team to beat and we're going to have to work our butts off to get there, but we're playing really good netball at the moment and I think we still have more to bring."

Emily O'Leary said Thompson's eagerness to improve has been her best trait.

"Her speed is amazing, she's really quick around the court and she was always keen to learn and push herself, that's what you want in a player," O'Leary said.

Saturday's match gets underway at 1.30pm.
