NSW Health's Influenza Surveillance Report for the week ending July 21 shows 278 cases were officially recorded, a big drop on the 382 reported in the seven days before that.
According to NSW Health, while the overall number of flu cases remains high across the state, it has continued to decrease in the majority of local health districts.
Statewide, in the week ending July 21, there were 5400 notifications of influenza, lower than the previous week's figure of 6779.
There have been 65,913 influenza notifications so far this year in NSW.
NSW Health has repeated warnings about the flu's potential impact on the young and elderly, after reports of "multiple" outbreaks in aged care centres.
In the year to date there have been 215 laboratory-confirmed influenza outbreaks in institutions reported to NSW public health units, including 178 in residential care facilities.
