First half goals to Chris van Honk and a long range cracker from Gus Everingham was enough for WWCC to seal the points, who are part of Pool B.
"This is the first time we've won our first game," WWCC coach David Ellis said.
"They pressed us pretty hard for the second half, we were under pressure for most of it.
"There was a lot of enthusiasm and work rate from both team, in the end it was probably our combinations that won out.
"We've had a couple of practice games and a lot of the boys are used to playing in the same (club) teams.
"Kooringal beat Mount Austin quite convincingly so they'll be a big challenge (next week) I think."
Defending champions Mater Dei Catholic College had to come from 2-0 down inside 20 minutes to salvage a 2-all draw with Kildare Catholic College.
Kildare had a late penalty kick to reclaim the lead but couldn't take advantage.
In the other Creed Shield clash Kooringal High School were far too strong for Mount Austin High School 8-0.
Mater Dei's girls began their Shipard Shield title defence with a 5-0 rout of Wagga Wagga High School, Mount Austin accounted for WWCC 4-0 and TRAC beat Kildare 5-1.
Preliminary round games will continue on Wednesdays for the next two weeks before semi finals are played on August 14.
Grand finals will move to Gissing Oval on August 21.
