Turvey Park Fire and Rescue station officer Justin Bentley said two crews from Turvey Park and one from Wagga Fire and Rescue were called to the pub with reports of smoke.
"Staff and patrons saw smoke in the upstairs area of the Farrer and as such were evacuated from the building," he said.
Crews investigated the source of the smoke using thermal imaging detectors.
"During the operation the electricity was isolated and the fault was traced to a faulty light that had shorted and melted behind the socket," Mr Bentley said.
"Once isolated and contained to ensure there was no spread of the fire, the hotel's own electricians took over to make necessary repairs."
Police and ambulance were on scene as a precautionary measure.
Mr Bentley said the pub is expected to return to normal business shortly.
