THE severe weather warning for the city has been cancelled.
The Bureau of Meteorology says severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the state, but showers and isolated thunderstorms could continue overnight.
The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, says the bureau, but the situation will continue to be monitored.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should keep clear of fallen power lines, creeks and storm drains and don't walk, ride or drive through flood water.
EARLIER
A WET and wild night could be ahead as a severe weather warning has been issued for the city.
The Bureau of Meteorology says severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the city over the next several hours.
The State Emergency Service has advised that people should:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised
- Report fallen power lines
- Unplug computers and appliances.
- Avoid using the phone during the storm.
- Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
The city has already received a light shower earlier today, but only 0.4 millimetres of rain had been recorded at the local station at 4.30pm.
The bureau is forecasting strong gusts of wind travelling northerly at 35 to 45 kilometres an hour, turning west to northwesterly at 20 to 30 kilometres in the late evening.
