The Goannas will chase a fourth straight victory on Saturday when they host Turvey Park at Mangoplah Sportground.
MCUE have taken the competition by storm over the past three weeks with big wins over Narrandera, Griffith and Collingullie-Glenfield Park moving them into fifth position on the ladder.
Collins sat last week's win over the Demons out with a wrist injury but will return for the crucial game against Turvey Park.
He believes it is important to keep the Goannas' position in perspective.
"Internally we've set some goals but at this stage, we're only at fifth," Collins said.
"We're taking it one game at a time and not counting our chickens."
Turvey Park will go into Saturday's game with confidence after a tight win over Narrandera at Narrandera Sportsground last week.
The Bulldogs' finals chances almost rest on the result of Saturday's game as they sit in seventh position, just one game plus percentage behind MCUE.
Collins said there is no way the Goannas will be taking the Bulldogs lightly.
"They pipped us the last time we played them and are a much improved side from previous years so we'll show them all the respect they deserve," he said.
"As a team we were still gelling, it was only our first game together, the last time we played them but Turvey were too good."
It will be Collins' 100th game for MCUE on Saturday. It has been a little while coming for the 28-year-old due to three seasons away, one at Wagga Tigers and two overseas.
"It's pretty exciting. It's a good bunch of blokes to celebrate it with," he said.
"I'm enjoying it a lot this year, all the fresh faces have definitely helped."
Collins believes the arrival of new MCUE coach Jeremy Rowe has been a big positive for the club.
"He's been really good. A fresh set of eyes on the club has probably been the biggest thing, that and implementing a new game plan, which everyone has bought into," he said.
"It's been a positive change for the club."
Collins and Jake Hindmarsh will come into the MCUE team to face the Bulldogs. Hindmarsh has missed the past two weeks due to a holiday.
Meantime, Collingullie-Glenfield Park will be without their two key forwards for Saturday's clash against Griffith at Exies Oval.
Full-forward Marc Geppert will miss the clash with a hamstring injury, joining suspended coach Luke Gestier on the sidelines.
With the bye the week after, Geppert hopes to be back to face Leeton-Whitton.
