Bristow was hoping to be released from hospital on Thursday after lacerating his kidney in the loss to Gundagai on Saturday.
However the onset of infection soon changed plans.
It's leaves a potential return up in the air for the Blues playmaker.
"We haven't really discussed footy since all this has happened," Blues co-coach Dean Bristow said.
"We're still unsure where it all can go from here so it hasn't even been discussed with the doctor or anyone like that.
"I'd only be guessing but knowing him he'll be trying to get back but I don't know how much this will slow him up.
"Now that I've realised the seriousness of the situation I've been worried about getting him home."
Bristow is expected to need more surgery in the coming weeks.
Tumut takes on Brothers at Equex Centre on Sunday.
