However after taking Lake Albert to premierships in two of his three seasons in charge, this time around he's set for a new challenge after joining forces with Kooringal Colts.
He believes there is plenty of potential at the club.
"Colts approached me and what they had to say from a club's perspective is pretty promising," Footman said.
"They've got a good squad and are looking to expand some junior capability.
"I'm looking for another challenge in a different environment so Colts is an attractive opportunity."
Colts had a makeshift coaching approach last season and Footman is looking to provide more structure.
He's excited for what he can bring to the side who were beaten in the preliminary final by eventual premiers South Wagga.
Footman stepped down after the Bulls' premiership success in the 2017-18 to concentrate of expanding his junior coaching business.
However he feels he's now got more time to get back into club land.
Colts president Rob Etchells is thrilled to have Footman on board.
He believes it will be a big step in enhancing their senior and junior cricket players.
"I think he'll be an excellent addition to the club in terms of his experience," Etchells said.
"We're of the belief we got more out of a non-playing coach than a playing coach because of the level of time and commitment that is required.
"We've got him on a three-year contract and think over the period we can give Footy the time to make improvements.
"We played finals last year and with the addition of Footy, and we're looking to attract some addition players to the club, we're confident we can push for a grand final berth this year."
Colts also confirmed Keenan Hanigan will captain the side again next season.
With Footman locked in their attention will now turn to player retention and recruitment.
Premiers South Wagga have already landed two big signings with Alex Smeeth and Lachie Skelly moving across from Lake Albert.
