NSW high voltage electricity transmission network operator TransGrid will use a specialist team to identify any potential bushfire risks and assess the condition of towers and power lines.

TransGrid customer engagement manager Darren Clarke said the helicopters will be looking for any vegetation encroaching on power lines and maintenance issues.

"These annual safety inspections are an important part of our comprehensive maintenance program to ensure the transmission network is safe for the community and our staff," he said.

"Residents across the region may see low-flying helicopters moving along our transmission lines,"

"We would like to thank the community for their understanding as we carry out our inspection program and remind the public to exercise caution around transmission lines and towers."

If the weather is permitting, TransGrid will inspect high voltage transmission lines in the Wagga, Uranquinty and Lake Albert areas during the week starting June 24.

The patrols will continue in Wagga during the week starting July 1, and will also start flying in Alfredtown, Forest Hill and Borambola.
