Football Wagga has held initial talks about the possibility of bringing W-League and A-League pre-season clashes to the city.
FWW officials, including former president Erwin Budde, and a council representative, met with Sydney FC on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of acquiring W-League and A-League trial games, with Newcastle Jets the preferred opponent.
They would be held on alternate years to Dubbo, with a W-League game in mid-October this year likely to be the first fixture.
FWW president Tony Dobbin said talks are preliminary and they "still have to dot the i's and cross the t's".
In recent years FWW has developed a strong relationship with Sydney FC, who often invite local players to the city for clinics and to watch games.
Sydney FC will will inspect the Equex Centre surface in coming weeks.
FWW is trying to acquire money to upgrade their Rawlings Park facility, including a $4 million boutique stadium.
