Chief Superintendent Rodney Smith, who is now commander of the NSW Police Force Academy, joined the NSW Police Force in 1989.
In 1996 he began criminal investigation duties at Wagga police station, and in 2002 he was promoted to the rank of sergeant as the crime coordinator for the then-Wagga Local Area Command.
In 2006, Chief Superintendent Smith returned to criminal investigation duties at the same location as a detective sergeant.
He was promoted to the rank of detective inspector as the crime manager for the Wagga Local Area Command in 2007 and left to take up a position with the-then Monaro LAC in 2013.
