At about 7pm on Friday, he was crossing the street outside Bernadi's supermarket when he was apparently struck by a dark-coloured SUV.
Witnesses say the driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and remained at the scene until after emergency crews had arrived.
It is understood the pedestrian sustained only minor injuries, including abrasions to the left of his face, and right hand. He is expected to make a full recovery.
One ambulance crew attended the scene and found him to be in a stable condition.
The crossing and parts of Bourke Street remained cordoned off in the aftermath, as police continued to canvas witnesses and investigate the circumstances.
