Wagga City Council has held pop-up community consultations in Wagga Marketplace and Wagga beach for 'Stage 2' of the project to redesign the waterfront area, which is popular with both visitors and residents.
Council strategic asset planner for parks and recreation, Ben Creighton, told The Daily Advertiser that consultation would continue with stakeholders after the public submission period ended on Saturday.
"The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive towards the development and what it means to the community," he said.
"The two things that have been really well supported have been the water play aspects and the (pop-up shop) containers for the cafes."
The current draft plan is the latest part of an effort that dates back to 2009 to "create a major community recreation space" around ''The Bend' of the Murrumbidgee River.
The proposed development aims to create a market and festival space to be used for major events and including a new playground and expanded path network.
Wagga Beach Caravan Park's lease will expire in October to make way for the development.

"(The draft concept) has well and truly been accepted as a good fit for the area," Mr Creighton said.
"The next level of design will go into the details of what that looks like, but from a conceptual point of view, there's enormous support out there for the project."
Some of the concept images shown to the public were taken from or inspired by open park areas in the Sydney council areas of Liverpool and Canada Bay.
"The idea is that there will be open spaces that the community can use and they will be capable of hosting a variety of events," Mr Creighton said.
"But at the same time there are plans in place for shade and cover for these spaces to make them usable all year round.
"This project is designed to refocus the city's attention on to the river and create connections through to the north and south along the levy."
The next stage of design could be available in the next couple of months as the council gathers information, including on flood patterns.
