"It's the people," Badewitz said. "Our skeet family. This is my 20th nationals."
The Daily Advertiser caught up with Badewitz after a round of shooting on Friday, in the 50th National 12 Gauge Skeet Championship.
"I shot 45 (of 50 targets) so that's pretty good, for my age."
It's 15 years since the DA captured Nancy and Don together at the same venue, in 2004.
Albury's Reg Petts is another regular at the Australian Clay Target Association's national ground at Wagga, particularly for the skeet titles.
He's come for three events at the week-long championships this time.
Now almost 84, Petts has been shooting for sport since he was a teenager.
"There might be competitors older than me but there wouldn't be too many older," Petts said.
"Skeet is not quite as popular as the other discipline, the down-the-line. But I like skeet. It's a bit more interesting. In the skeet the targets are coming across (from both sides).
Petts had rounds of 48 and 45 in Thursday's Commonwealth Championship and a 46/50 early on Friday.
"It's not too bad. I've shot a few hundreds over the years here but not this time," Petts said.
The national titles wrap up with doubles on Saturday.
