Acting Inspector Geoff Gray from Wagga police said it would be alleged the 32-year-old failed to stop for a random breath test about 11.30pm in Ashmont Avenue and a police chase then began.
The driver was stopped a short time later in nearby Mima Street. He was subsequently charged with engaging in a police pursuit, having a mid-range alcohol reading and resisting arrest.
"It was only a short pursuit that police engaged in," Acting Inspector Gray said.
Over the weekend, Wagga police had 18 extra officers and nine additional cars on the roads in the area as part of Operation Chrome, a statewide operation which is aimed at reducing road trauma and fatalities.
Acting Inspector Gray said police were "a little bit disappointed" after six people returned positive roadside breath tests for alcohol and four drug tests in the Wagga area.
