Built by the inmates at Junee Correctional Centre, last year's model raised $78,000 for the town's Can Assist branch. This year, the funds will go to Country Hope.

"It's a fantastic thing they do, the concept is wonderful. Here's a bunch of inmates doing something incredible for kids with cancer," said Country Hope chairperson Tom Looney.

This is the third car the inmates have restored in as many years, with general manager of the correctional centre, Scott Brideoake saying it has contributed to a new found pride in the community.

"They're giving back to the community, even though they;re on the inside. Some are from the local area, but a lot have had families touched by cancer," he said.

"It's good for them to see how they can contribute to the community, because in a lot of cases they haven't had that experience on the outside."

When it was purchased for $8000 in Victoria the vehicle was fully functioning.

But Mr Brideoake said the car was quickly stripped down to just its chassis.

"We're building it from the ground up now," Mr Brideoake said.

It is expected to take a full 12 months to be restored and rebuilt, with up to 30 inmates working on it at any given time.

When it's restored to its full glory, Mr Looney and Mr Brideoake hope it will reach beyond last year's total funds raised.

"I'd like to see it get around the $100,000 mark, I think it could get there. Looking at the vehicle and all the work that's going into it, it'll be very impressive."

It would be a huge cash injection for the local charity.

"Over the 15 years we've been around, we've helped many, many families in the Junee community," Mr Looney said.

"This will be a good boost for us to be able to help me, because all that money will stay in the local community, it only goes around the region."

Although raffle tickets are not yet available, Mr Looney said the car - and its prominent heritage - have already received enormous attention.

"My son-in-law is mad on motorsports and he's said he's going to buy a hundred tickets. People are very keen for this car."

The car will be raffled on December 7, with tickets purchasable in-person and online at Country Hope.
