Henwood Park youngster Cameron Weir capped a weekend to remember by scoring all three goals in the Hawks' 3-0 shutout of Lake Albert at Rawlings Park on Sunday.
The night before Weir was celebrating his entry into adulthood with his mates, but the party continued with three clinically taken goals against the defending premiers.
Weir scored his first off a volley in the 25th minute, before again seizing on a dangerous cross to double the lead midway through the second half.
And when Lake Albert conceded a penalty on the stroke of full-time, it gift-wrapped him his third. Talk about the icing on the cake.
Weir may have been nursing a headache after a big night, but he dished out plenty of his own to Lake Albert down the left flank.
"The crosses were great and I was just lucky enough to be on the end of them," Weir said.
"We're looking good, we had a good start to the season against Young and the results weren't what we wanted the last few games, but we're getting there."
Henwood Park coach Matt Menser said it was a no-brainer to let Weir have the final say from the penalty spot.
"You can't deny him a chance to get a hat-trick for his birthday," Menser said.
"He probably played better than he did last week, maybe it helped. He had three or four other chances that could have gone in and he was a standout today, I thought he played excellent.
"That's the best we've played this year, everyone did their job and Lake Albert's a very good opposition. We matched it with them physically."
Meanwhile last year's grand finalists Young hammered Cootamundra 10-0 on Saturday night, with Isaac Anderson scoring a hat-trick and captain Duncan Cameron a brace.
It was Young's first game since beating Lake Albert 3-2 in the grand final rematch a fortnight ago, after South Wagga forfeited last week's clash.
"That was always going to be a big game we thought about each week, so to beat them (Lake Albert) was massive," Cameron said.
"It was disappointing to have that week off last week, but we needed that one against Lake Albert to stay in touching distance of the other teams."
Young defender Jake Burns will have scans on a suspected broken jaw this week.
In other matches Wagga United secured their fourth win in five games with a 4-1 triumph over South Wagga, Hanwood maintained top spot with a 4-0 thrashing of Tolland and Tumut drew 2-all with Leeton.
