Young scrambles late to share spoils with Temora

The Cherrypickers led 12-10 at the break but conceded back-to-back tries before storming home in the final minutes to secure a point in the round four Group Nine tie at Alfred Oval.

Cherrypickers coach Roy Jewitt said his side was lucky to escape with a draw.

"I think Temora deserved to get the two points but one point is better than nothing," he said.

"I'm very, very disappointed with the performance. We look like we lacked energy and enthusiasm, something we talk about all the time."

A Jesse Corcoran conversion separated the sides at halftime as Young led 12-10, however the visitors surged to a 22-12 lead before the hour-mark thanks to tries to lock Grant Hughes and second-rower Joe Leggatt.

Frustrations grew in the Young camp as they were pinged for off-side from a restart and failed to find touch after earning a penalty, but the Dragons couldn't capitilise.

Late tries to Young centre Sam Langford and winger Kye Tiedemann leveled the scores moments before the hooter, giving Corcoran a chance to win the game but his conversion sailed wide.

Fullback Schiller was outstanding in the dying stages providing the final pass for both tries.

Jewitt said some individuals, including Schiller, were excellent but he labeled the team's performance poor.

"Nobody really put their hand up to lead us around, we struggled. We obviously have a lot of work to do," he said.

Temora Dragons second-rower Matt Hughes said it was an improved performance.

"It's good to get back to playing a bit better footy than the last few weeks, we've been talking a lot about completing sets," he said.

"It's good to get a point I guess but a few crucial errors and a few non-chases on kicks really hurt us in the final few minutes."

Both sides will be aiming for second wins of the season next week.

Young will head to Junee while Temora hosts Kangaroos.
