Turvey Park Fire Station's senior firefighter Ron Baroni said the gas leak was caused by a machine operator who hit a connection at a building site on Cootamundra Avenue.
He said the collision was enough to rupture the gas point.
The fire station responded to the incident with two appliances at 9.41am.
"Roads around the area were closed off and we waited for the gas company to arrive and seal off the leak," Mr Baroni said.
Firefighters used atmospheric monitoring equipment to detect the amount of gas in the area.
Mr Baroni said the reports showed that the gas levels was not at a dangerous amount.
"No residents were evacuated from the area, however, we did asked some to remain indoors," he said.
The gas leak was isolated and sealed off within two and a half hours.
