Trainer Paul Jones said Mercurial Lad could win another Town Plate for the stable if the rain arrives.
"If it rains it's a bonus for him," Jones said.
"He needs some fire out of the track for him to do his best. He will shorten in the betting if the rain comes as is predicted."
Mercurial Lad, who took out the 2017 Gundagai Snake Gully Cup, is well positioned to win from barrier three where he will be able to race right on the speed.
"I think he can be in the ideal spot from there. He has the speed to lead if needed, but I think there will be enough pace on that he can position just behind the leader," Jones said.
Sydney jockey Christian Reith has the ride on Mercurial Lad.
Mercurial lad also has the option of racing in Sydney on Saturday where he is an acceptor.
