Police tape has been placed around the College Avenue entrance as the asbestos is cleared.
Students and staff of the Conservatorium of Music have been advised to park outside the entrance, or on Charleville Road to avoid contact with the "highly dangerous and unstable" structure.
Buildings associated with the Conservatorium were not damaged during the fire.
Update 8:30pm April 29:
Superintendent for Wagga's Fire and Rescue NSW zone, Stewart Alexander, stated that crews came from Albury and Culcairn to extinguish the blaze, as well as local fire departments.
"The building was already looking to undergo demolition, but we will investigate more when it is safe to do so," he said.
April 29, 7pm:
A blaze has broken out at Charles Sturt University's South Campus on Urana Street tonight, sending an entire building up in flames.
Fire and Police departments attended the scene just after 6:30pm and have vehicles blocking off the site which they stated is now an official crime scene.
Plumes of smoke are being sent into the sky that are visible from many streets away, and crowds of onlookers are lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the damage.
There have been no reports at this stage on what caused the fire, and emergency crews remain on site to fight the blaze.
More to come.
