Lady Mironton is one of 36 nominations for Friday's $170,000 Wagga Gold Cup (2000m) but will also be nominated for a race at Randwick on Saturday.
Carroll is leaning towards a start in the Wagga feature but will not run the mare on a rain-affected track, where she has proven to struggle.
"It's all depending on rain," Carroll said.
"She's in the Cup and I've got to nominate in Sydney, where there is a race right up her alley but at the same time, I'm seeing they are predicting 20 millimetres on Friday at Randwick.
"She certainly won't be starting on any slow tracks, especially in the Cup. We don't need to gas her just to go around in the Wagga Cup."
It has been a long time since Carroll had a starter in the Wagga Gold Cup. He thinks his last starter may have been Within An Ace, who ran ninth in the 1995 edition.
Carroll admits the Wagga Gold Cup has not been Lady Mironton's focus this preparation but a start in the listed feature is his preference over a trip to Sydney.
"It's not an afterthought having a Cup run but in no way has she had a Cup preparation with the Championships and everything," he said.
"The 1800 metre race in Sydney would be ideal for her, but we don't want to go there if it's wet.
"She'll go to the Wagga Cup if it doesn't rain."
The Sydney option for Lady Mironton is the $125,000 3YO & 4YO Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m).
She bounced back strongly from her Championships run with a dominant victory in open company at Albury last start.
Meantime, group one-winning jockey Michael Walker will ride at Wagga on Town Plate day.
Walker will team up with Sydney trainer John Thompson for a few rides.
Also booked to ride at Wagga are Robbie Dolan, Sam Clipperton, Christian Reith and Rachel King.
Weights for the two days will be released on Monday with the fields to come out on Tuesday morning.
