The Northern Jets denied Barellan their first win of the season in a bruising derby on Saturday, claiming a heart-stopping (and heart-breaking) 8.8 (56) to 7.12 (54) win at Barellan Sportsground.

Critical and classy last quarter goals to Matt Wallis, from 40m out on the boundary, and returned Jet Josh Parmenter ensured the Jets scraped home for the two-point win, leaving the Two Blues to rue missed opportunities.
Having led by eight points at quarter time but less than a goal at the next two breaks, Barellan were cruelled by a 2.7 final term while the visitors' 3.6, with the breeze, proved just enough.
"We had to dig pretty deep to do it. Both teams were out on our legs, everyone was pretty sore and tired," Jets assistant Len Haddrill said.
"We were lucky they did miss a couple of opportunities and we converted when we needed to.
"It was a very contested, physical game. They tackled really well and were hard at it all day.
"It was pretty hot footy."
The intensity of the game as well as the wind meant it wasn't the most skilful of encounters but there was no doubting the effort.
Barellan had lifted a strong crowd with their willing performance and ability to dictate terms to have the Jets on the backfoot. And they were devastated to fall short of the reward after an impressive effort led Ben Maiden on a wing, backman Kabe Stockton and former Jet Darcy McDermott.
For the Jets, Jack Fisher and Mitch and Len Haddrill were strong through the middle while Parmenter looked dangerous up forward, Brad McKinnon impressive in defence and Henry Grinter and Paddy Bray continued their bright starts to the year.
Wallis kicked two goals as did Len Haddrill while McDermott and Casey Moore had doubles for Barellan.
It was the Jets' second win in three games and a lift before they host Marrar at Ariah Park next week.
The Two Blues face the daunting prospect of East Wagga-Kooringal at Gumly.
